Question by Orion: What do you do if you accidentally add a word to dictionary in Microsoft Word?
I accidentally put a word that isn’t real in my Microsoft Word (you know, with the “add to dictionary” option.

Is there a way to remove the word from Word? If so, how?

Thank you.

Usually I would just ignore it…You have a small chance of accidentally typing that word again…

I am assuming you are using Word 2007

I believe in word, when you add a word to the dictionary…what it will do is actually create a custom dictionary…

you can edit this custom dictionary by
clicking the MS Office symbol and

clicking Word Options go under Proofing and click custom dictionaries…

Click Edit Word List…you should see the word you added to the dictionary…just delete it…if there is nothing there…then you didn’t add any words.

If you are not using Word 2007 then you will have to look carefully for this custom dictionary…you should be able to find it with a little bit of effort.

Question by Emily W: Mistakes in dictionary–who would I write to who is with the company?
The dictionary is new american handy college webster dictionary fourth edition and I found mistakes in it. I want to write to the company but I don’t know what it is.
It says albert and loy morehead edited it and philip d morehead prepared it. How do I contact them?

Answer by ballaerina
Go to the publisher’s website, locate an e-mail and write to them about the mistakes. You might not get a reply (because those types of mailboxes are usually flooded), but I’m sure they will acknowledge the mistakes and correct them in the next edition.

Question by wahaha: How will I get my Photobooth and Dictionary back on my MacBook?
I accidentally deleted my Photobooth and Dictionary applications on my MacBook, now I couldn’t retrieve it.

I tried to use my Applications installer to install them again, but still no change.

Is there any way that I could install both of my apps without downloading on the internet?

THANKS

Backtrack using Time Machine. (You did enable Time Machine didn’t you?). Failing that, use the OS X install disks that came with your machine or the upgrade version you may have purchased.

You only have yourself to answer to. If you think it’s cheating, don’t do it. If you think it’s part of the process of keeping your mind sharp (and that’s how I see it), go for it.

Question by John Morrison: Is there an online dictionary where I can look up a list of words?
When I read, I make notes of the words I’m unfamiliar with in order to look them up later. Is there an online dictionary where I can input this list of words all at once instead of looking them all up one at a time?

Answer by The Phlebob
Your personal dictionary, persdict.dat, seems to be in this directory

In Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Mozilla\ Firefox\Profiles\your profile

In Windows Vista (I suspect):

C:\Documents\your username\Appdata\Roaming\Mozilla\ Firefox\Profiles\ your profile

The file seems to be editable with Wordpad.

Hope that helps.

In your opinion, what would be harder to accomplish, memorizing the entire dictionary or studying physics?

Question by eddeux: In your opinion, what would be harder to accomplish, memorizing the entire dictionary or studying physics?
I was just curious since I hear a lot of people say physics is one of the hardest majors to study. Physicist study the fundamentals of our universe and uncover the unknown, and this is consistently growing since there is much more to learn about our galaxy and the billion others that exist in this universe. The dictionary, filled with words most people don’t know also grows as new words are introduced.

For me, it would probably be memorizing the dictionary. I excel at math and I wouldn’t have the attention span to read the entire dictionary.
